About Department

School & Mass Education Department was created as a separate Department in January 1993, to look into the issues pertaining to Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Teachers Training, Sanskrit Education, Computer Education, Special Education and Mass Education in the State. The provision of funds for the development of these sectors is being made keeping in view the availability of State resources for education sector and assistance School & Mass Education Department was created as a separate Department in January 1993

According to census 2001, Odisha has a population of 3,67,06,920. The population in the age group of 0 to 6 is 51,80,551. The number of literates is 2,05,53,786.

Primary Education

The State Government is committed to the Universalisation of Elementary Education in the State with the aim of fulfilling the constitutional obligation with the assistance
