Under the Department
there is one Corporation i.e. Orissa Pisciculture Development Corporation (OPDC) and there
are three Apex Societies ie. Orissa Milk Federation (OMFED), Orissa Poultry Federation
(OPOLFED) and Orissa State Fishermens Cooperative Federation (FISHFED).The mandate
assigned to these organizations in brief is as under:
OPDC
The OPDC has been set up to
serve the inland pisciculturists in the State by providing quality fish seeds at a
reasonable cost and in time. The marine fishing community is required to be served by this
organization by providing suitable infrastructure facilities for fishing operation and
marketing of the marine product.
OMFED
The objective of OMFED is to
promote milk production and marketing in the adopted districts. Out of 30 districts in the
State, this organization operates in 16 districts at present with a chain of milk-chilling
plants around the milk production and marketing centres. OMFED has achieved commendable
success in organizing milk producers primary cooperatives including those consisting of
women farmers exclusively, in large number of villages and district milk unions in 14
districts in the State.
OPOLFED
The main aim of this apex
body of poultry farmers/societies to supply genetically superior chicks, both layers and
broilers to farmers for rearing and collection of birds and eggs for marketing.
